Key West 2012-2013

We departed Key West in April and sailed to the Bahamas for spring and early summer and then sailed north to Beaufort, NC where we spent time with family and had Lastdance hauled for maintenance and installation of air conditioning. We departed the yard in September and arrived back home in Key West in mid October.

Key West 2010- 2011

Having made it to Key West 2 days before Thanksgiving, we quickly settled in to life in paradise. Here is a photo journal of how folks live in the Conch Republic.

Key West 2009- 2010

After voyaging 2 months and a day, we sailed Lastdance into Key West. We're docked at the Boca Chica Naval Air Station where we'll spend the winter exploring the many Keys in Florida Bay as well as the many haunts, saloons and alleyways of this historic "Island in the Stream."

2010 Voyage to Key West

Leaving fully 2 weeks earlier than last year, we had much better weather sailing south this fall and even after spending two weeks in Beaufort, NC, we made it to Key West 2 days before Thanksgiving Day

2010 Voyages

Delayed for 3 days by bad weather, we finally got underway from Key West on May 3rd and we began our voyage back to Chesapeake Bay. With much warmer conditions than in the fall, we anchored out a lot and "smelled the roses" a bit but we also made a fast enough passage to spend 2 weeks in Beaufort and still got to Annapolis by early June. After a great summer sailing around Chesapeake Bay, we're making preparations to sail back to Key West.

2009 Voyage South

With anticipation of great adventure, Teresa and I are sailing south to Key West for the winter. Our plan is to sail slowly south with many layovers in places of interest so follow the voyage in this photo journal and our 2009-2010 voyage blog.

New Adventures

To sail a boat is to negotiate life. As we go forward, we'll seek out adventures that will be modest to some and exciting to others but we'll always harness the wind and waves to reach our destinations and goals. It's been said..."There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all..."

2008 - 2009

Having connected with my grandchildren like never before, I decided Florida would still be there next year and that I would winter in Beaufort while my son Christopher is in Iraq again. There, life took an unexpected turn and I met Teresa and we were married in the summer of 2009 and as they say, life goes on but we always have the memories of our past to cherish.

Friends & Shipmates

"....good friends we've had and good friends we've lost, along the way."  A great thing about sailing are the people you meet and friends you make along the way.  We've been blessed with many sailing and landlubber friends and even a few power boaters from here in America and from around the world.  They can be counted on to offer a cold beer, a thimble of rum and lifesaving help if your ship gets in harms way.  Check out our Friends & Shipmates photo album and if you don't see your own mug, I probably don't have one of y'all so drop me a line and I'll put you in it

Family

All the fun has not been limited to friends. We've been fortunate to have shared the sail with our children and relatives as well, and will hopefully continue to do so until I'm too old to sail

Sailing with Carol

There were many facets to Carol...wife, mother, woman, shipmate, my best friend and my lover. The one common denominator was her wonderful outlook on life, which can be seen by one and all in her great smile in these photos which span almost 50 years of the life I shared with her. Even as a kid, she always made me want to be better...a better person and better at everything thing I did. Do not forget this woman!
