I have wanderlust.  The romantic sea-story version is that I was born along the shore in Brooklyn where the Varrazano Bridge now stands.  I did dumb stuff such as build a raft to sail with Carol to England which is what we thought Sandy Hook, NJ was.

We used to hang out at the 69th street pier to watch ships stand out to sea and to dream of the far-away places they were going to.  By and by, I went to a cool high school in New York aboard SS John W. Brown, now an operational museum in Baltimore.

I joined the Navy on my 17th birthday and went to sea in an old, smelly, but sleeek diesel submarine, USS Jallao SS-368.  Then, went on to Maine Maritime Academy, became an officer and went to sea again. Through it all, I always messed around and sailed small boats.  It might be said that these experiences had some influence upon me and are responsible for my wanderlust...Ya think?
