Lastdance gets a wind generator
|
Oct 10 - Today I'm going to the Annapolis boat show to buy some essential gear for my sailing voyage to Florida and the Bahamas. My list is long but my resources are short so safety equipment comes first. A liferaft, updated flares and charts and if there is any money left, a wind generator to help keep my batteries charged. The next few days will be spent doing what seamen have done for thousands of years...loading my ship with stores, spare parts, fuel and water, saying goodbye to family and friends and checking tides and currents. As she did in the past, Carol would have done much of the planning for this voyage which makes everything I do very bitter-sweet. I wish she was here to sail away with me. Oct 17 - Still in Maryland! Liferaft arrived today and wind generator has been installed but there was no wind today so I don't know if it works but I'm getting a leaf blower tomorrow to get the generator spinning. All that remains is the transducer for my depth gauge which should arrive on Monday. In the meantime, I've got a long list of chores to get done and the edited manuscript has come back from my publisher so I've got lots to keep me busy. Oct 21 - This is frustrating! Everything is ready except I'm still waiting on the damn depth sounder transducer. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow so I'm now shooting for a Thursday departure. The good news is that the wind generator is working. The wind is blowing at 25 knots right now and I'm cranking out the amps.
